At 4 1/2 months of age, his new owner sent the above (and below) photos and wrote:
"Since we brought him home, Smokie has loved to play fetch. This was his first retrieve of real game in the hunting field (dove season just opened yesterday). Pretty good for 4 1/2 months. He is a joy.
Dove hunting is a very popular and traditional sport in the South, and are very good to eat.
I plan to use him to hunt ducks also. I recently got him swimming in our pool and he had a good time retrieving objects I threw in the water.
Smokie also likes to herd cows. Without any training he goes after the strays I send him after, and responds promptly when I tell him to back off and let the herd move along slowly.
He continues to have great manners for a puppy and a wonderful disposition.
