Fanny Mae & Her Sheep

August 2008

Peg,

Fanny has come with me to feed the new sheep every day this week. She has not been sure of herself around them, a little hesitant, but I just feed, water while I talk to her and the sheep. It has been so hot here, 105+, that I decided to wait until my day off, (today early) to see if I could get her to move them at all.

I penned up the 3 little girls who are not use to dogs at all, and took Fanny in with the ram and 2 ram lambs. She had been showing more and more interest in them as the week went on, and today she walked with me behind the sheep and the more they moved, the more sure she got. I got some good pictures of her with them and I am sending you some. She barked at them a little and she didn't like the big ram staring at her so we came in from a different direction. The sheep are a lot calmer around Fanny than they are around Solomon. He is a lot more confident at almost 4, and they feel very threatened by him. Hopefully I can tone him down some, and Fanny I think is going to come along nicely and realize her power as she matures. She is such a sweetie and wants to please! ~ Carol

Peg,

We have started just sitting with the sheep while they eat, and both dogs are willing to be calm and quiet with the sheep. I am enjoying watching the sheep, I have never been around them before. They are pretty neat. Fanny is liking them more each day, she is ready to get in the pen every day! I think she is so willing to please me, and she watches me to see if I'm approving of her. I think she is growing into her confidence. Solomon seemed confident from the start, and seems to second guess me in what I want. He wants to do what I ask, but then it's like he thinks he know's it all and will listen again as soon as he has this job done! He is not easy to direct, but Fanny seems to be waiting for direction. I am enjoying watching Fanny grow up, she's different from Solomon, but just as smart, playful, and willing as he is. I'll keep you posted on her progress!

Carol
