Poppy (litter name, Greta) lives in Illinois on a farm, helping with her new owner's horse chores.

NINE WEEKS

Hi Peg,
I have to tell you how pleased I am with this puppy! She has learned so much already. Like not to cross from the kitchen linoleum to the carpet. How to sit and she's getting the begging sit down also.
She goes to the stables with me, where all the kids just adore her! She rides very nice in the car or truck.
But the best was the other day - remember she's only 9 weeks old - we were at the stables and an aussie came barreling straight at us. I knew the dog & was not worried - but Poppy had not seen her before. She stepped between us and starting growling and barking! It was like she was saying - SLOW DOWN! don't come at my mom like that! I was very impressed!

5 MONTHS

Hi Peg,
Everyday she's doing something I'm so impressed with! Like yesterday, we were out at the stable, where I keep my riding horse, and she started out the main barn door and was barking at the owner's backyard. I looked out and at first did not see anything. Then I saw a man coming out with 2 - 5gal buckets. Did not know him, but saw his car parked at the beginning of the driveway (like for a fast getaway!) So I started walking over there. Poppy went in front of me barking the whole way. I let her! The man put his buckets down and stood there, I asked what he was doing. Said he had permission from the owner to come and get manure (that's what was in the buckets). So I told him sorry, but we've been having trouble with thefts, called Poppy off, which she listened very well. He understood, picked up his buckets and left!

Poppy went to her first Tremont Turkey Festival Parade on Sunday. She was very un impressed. (She's seen it all already!) Never looked at the horses, bagpipes, fire engines & sirens, she did get up and look at the marching band. Then she let a lil' 10 month old pat and love on her.

She's good with all the cats in my barn and at Bridlewood. When I feed the 18 head of horses at Bridlewood her "job" is to keep the goat out of the grain wagon. She does it very well!! the goat gets "NO" grain!

She goes down to the riding therapy place where I'm on the board. One little Downs syndrome girl came up to her wearing her helmet and boots bent over, put out her hand and told Poppy "Shake!" (I've always told Poppy to keep her feet off.) Well, she threw her paw into that little girl's hand. It was so cute! I wished I'd had a picture. I've never tried to teach her to shake.

Anyway, THANK YOU, can't say it enough!

Hi Peg,

Took her with me to a horse show down in Springfield,IL this past weekend, my first time riding at an approved dressage show. She was SOOO Good for a 5 month old!!

She's starting to be more of a watchdog; don't come by her truck, our motel room, etc. at the same time she's learning to access the situation to see if I need to know about it. When she's spot on, I encourage her and tell her good dog, if not I tell her leave it, it's not our business! She's good with the kittens in the barn, but she's learned "Leave Momma Cat ALONE"!

6 MONTHS

Peg,

Everyone that sees my dog wants her!! She goes with me to Bridlewood every Monday to do stalls - I don't need to keep her on a leash any more. She knows which goat she can mess with and which one she can't. When I'm feeding - No goat sneaks grain on our watch. (goats are just loose and go wherever they want!)

She's so good with the grandkids, kittens and children at the barn and at home. If I can't find her for a while - I'll go looking for her - find her asleep at my stall or by my car! I just don't need to worry that she's out causing trouble.

Poppy is 37 lbs now and almost 6 mos old. You did not warn me they grow up so fast! She has just not stayed a baby!
Thanks again for this perfect dog!

Amy

P.S. Peg, I forgot to tell you her nicknames - Kissee Face and Wiggle Butt!

She has already started in disciplining the one goat (that nobody likes!) on her own. But everyone at the barn is always yelling at that goat and Poppy feels the need to go in and re-enforce "the correction"! I am getting after her and the people yelling at the goat!

But on a good note, the other night the 2yr old Hafllinger had broken a board (again) and gotten into a field he was not supposed to be in. I told Poppy come on, we have to get him out of that field. It was night and as I went to open the gate, here comes the gelding walking toward the gate, with Poppy trailing behind. She brought him in from the field all on her own!! No bark, no fuss, no running around! I told her what a good smart puppy she was! She was pretty proud of herself. She's only 6 mos old!!
